BIOME 25' Showcase, Queens NY

Drawing reference from the ecological community type, formed in response to its physical environment and regional climate, this year’s Biome consists of members in our network whose work is emerging in the space of past meets present.

Malcolm Ransome is a designer and artist whose work blends sculptural exploration with technical problem-solving, stemming from a deep curiosity for how things are made. With a focus on custom hardware, fashion accessories, and furniture, Malcolm’s practice is rooted in self expression and takes form through a mix of traditional and digital fabrication. He believes that art and design have the power to change perspective and offer a different view of reality. He designs with and for his community.

Reginald Sylvester II is an artist working predominantly in abstraction, making large scale paintings, sculpture, furniture, and design objects. He encourages medium to guide him to concept through experimentation with an investigation into physical, industrial, and spiritual engagements with rubber, steel, and aluminum—leading him to uncover complex material histories and reckonings with biblical and nuclear dystopias. He creates for those who are drawn to the dialogue between past and present, with an eye toward shaping a tangible future.

Steffany Trần is an industrial designer and artist, focusing on objects, lighting and furniture. Her work connects the dots between historical Vietnamese art and her belief of tenderness in the everyday, expressed into enriching, emotional dialogues inspired by the natural world: the fleeting charm of organic occurrences and capturing these moments of contained comfort. She works primarily with organic materials, such as ceramic, paper, and wood–centering the human touch of handcraft in an increasingly digital age. She designs for the curious, the intentional, or for those simply seeking a little more tenderness.

Yuxuan Huang is a furniture designer interested in deconstructed materials from found objects. Her designs apply a reimagined method of play to simplistic forms, allowing functionality to harmoniously coexist with artistry, memory, and forgotten stories. She sees furniture not as product, but as witness—an ongoing presence that evolves through time, use, and meaning. She designs for those who are willing to feel—not just through ideas, but through materials. For those who notice texture before explanation, and who sense that an object carries not just function, but history and potentia
